March Trip Part 3 - Palmyra

We took a day trip down to Palmyra, NY and visited all the LDS Church history sites around there.

First we went to the Smith farmhouse.  This is where Moroni appeared to Joseph Smith and told him about the plates (the Book of Mormon).

Super steep stairs! I'd totally fall on them all the time.

View of the Palmyra Temple across from the farmhouse:
Next is the Smith frame house.  There are many places throughout the house where the plates had to be hidden from the mobs who came after Joseph and his family.  This house is actually the original, just restored.

For some reason Karys really loved the rag rug and played with it the whole time the tour guide was talking in this room. Karys also wanted to sit on a bench right by the Sacred Grove.  She thought she was such a big girl.
Part of the Sacred Grove where everything began when Joseph Smith prayed to know which church to join.
 The Palmyra Temple:
The windows in the temple all had images of the Sacred Grove in them, so pretty.
And here is the Stake Center across from the Temple:
 The Erie Canal:
Book of Mormon publication site:

The lake stone house which is on the site of the Martin Harris farm. He was a very prominent figure in early Church history and helped fund the printing of the Book of Mormon.
 Hill Cumorah Vistors' Center:

Replica of the plates found in the Hill Cumorah

 The Hill Cumorah:

The hill is waaaay steeper than it looks! (and of course we decided to walk straight up instead of using the switchback path)

monument on top of the hill
The Whitmer farm where the LDS Church was officially organized:

Chapel & Visitor's Center at the Whitmer farm:
It was one of the most beautiful chapels I have ever been in.

Also, we ate the best pizza ever at this little pizza place across the street from the Book of Mormon publication site.  It was a BBQ pulled pork pizza and it was amazing!
